3x10-Regional-Holiday-Music-community-27732137-1280-720.jpg

When Jeff gets the Glee club members in trouble with ASCAP, Glee club teacher Cory Raddison (aka Mr. Rad) played by the incomparable Taran Killam, attempts to recruit the study group for the Christmas pageant. Abed spreads Glee to his friends like a virus, leading to such unforgettable numbers as “Baby Boomer Santa,” “Teach Me How To Understand Christmas,” and Britta’s Heart song (“I got a Christmas time for me // I got a Christmas time for a tree.”). In the first three seasons of Community the holiday episodes got better each year. This is the last season before NBC got rid of Dan Harmon and the show took a turn for the worst. This episode is full of hilarious performances and gleeful tunes.

This episode can be streamed on Hulu.

My Brother, My Brother, and Me

SEASON 1 EPISODE 6

mbmbam1.jpg

The McElroy’s advice show is interrupted by the emergence of Candlenights: a pan-religious, pan-sexual, personal pan holiday. As the boys scramble to prepare for their holiday podcast recording in their hometown of Huntington, WV, Lin-Manuel Miranda narrates their (mis)adventures. Justin struggles to come up with a Christmas story, Griffin gets electrocuted, and Travis gets some advice from Weird Al Yankovic. This is a star-studded holiday episode with plenty of goofs and a tear-jerking moment between brothers (“gimme that Emmy juice!”).

This episode can be streamed on VRV.

Rick and Morty
Anatomy Park

SEASON 1 EPISODE 3

Anatomy_Park_3.png

In this unconventional Christmas episode Rick enlists his grandson to shrink down and go into the body of a homeless Santa, in which Rick has built a Anatomy Park, an amusement park using the organs of the homeless gentlemen. Morty meets up with Rick’s partner, played by John Oliver, and has to escape all sorts of monstrous diseases while trying to escape. Meanwhile, Jerry’s parents visit the family with a new young lover that sends Jerry into a tailspin. This is an instant classic episode that came early in Rick and Morty’s incredible first season. Once again Dan Harmon delivers an unpredictable Christmas episode.

This episode can be streamed on Hulu.

30 Rock
Ludachristmas

SEASON 2 EPISODE 9

NUP_111912_0133

My original pick for a 30 Rock Christmas episode was when Frank and the guys convince Kenneth that they celebrate a holiday called Merlinpeen, but then I remembered Ludachristmas. This episode of has so much working in it’s favor. Andy Richter plays Liz’s brother who was in a ski accident and still thinks he’s in high school, Jenna tries to make the party all about her, Tracy has an ankle monitor and tries to keep from drinking at the office party. Jack tries to show Lemon that her family is not as perfect as she thinks and it all leads to a climax of trying to cut down the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

This episode can be streamed on Netflix.

The Office
CHristmas PArty

SEASON 2 EPISODE 10

980x.jpg

The Office had many memorable Christmas episodes but the most classic has to be the first. Jim has Pam for Secret Santa and prepares the perfect gift, with a note confessing his feelings for her. His plans are thwarted when Michael is unsatisfied with the oven mitt Phyllis made him, and turns Secret Santa into YAAAAAAAAAANKEE Swap! This is a classic episode from The Office’s finest season, full with Michael making a fool of himself, a visit from Todd Packer, and some killer karaoke performances including Dwight adding percussion to Angela’s Little Drummer Boy.

This episode can be streamed on Netflix

Friends
THe one with the holiday armadillo

SEASON 7 EPISODE 10

1450903255-friends-holiday-armadillo.jpg

Ross has his son, Ben for the holidays and tried to teach him about Hanukkah, but all Ben cares about is Santa and Christmas. Ross dresses up as the holiday armadillo (aka Weird Turtle Man), and gets Ben excited to learn about Hanukkah until Santa and Superman blow up his spot. This is an over-the-top, slightly cheesy but fun holiday episode that is worth watching for David Schwimmer’s waddling alone.

This episode can be streamed on Netflix.

Seinfeld
The Strike

SEASON 9 EPISODE 10

maxresdefault.jpg

Before Merlinpeen. Before Candlenights. This iconic episode created a alternative holiday that fans still celebrate. I am talking of course about Festivus, the holiday created by Frank Constanza with traditions that include the airing of grievances, the feats of strength, and of course the aluminum pole that replaces the Christmas tree. This episode is where we find out that Kramer has been on strike from his job at a bagel store for decades and once he returns to work he decides to use Festivus as an excuse to get out of work. The climactic celebration finds all characters converging at the Constanza’s house where things quickly get out of hand. George’s horrified reactions to his father’s actions, Kramer’s Festivus spirit, and Jerry Stiller’s incomparable performance make this THE most memorable holiday episode in television history.

This episode can be streamed on Hulu.
